Thames water was looted by it's owners. Now its Southern Waters turn to be robbed by the same owners

This arrangement defeats the purpose of its existence.

There need to be a root and branch review of who sits on the Ofwat board. we need stricter adherence to ensure we have the best quality clean water.

For Ofwat was fit for purpose we wouldn't have crap in our rivers, beaches closed due to pollution, 57 swimmers falling sick after the World Triathlon Championship Series in Sunderland (much to our international shame) shame), rocketing water bills & Thames Water on the brink of collapse with debts of £15,000,000,000.

It has no teeth and does nothing with the stumps that it does have!!

Ofwat doesn't seem to be on the side of the consumers but more in the pockets of the water companies.

Ofwat or some body is needed to keep an eye on water companies. Ofwat needs an overhaul of it's staff.

they seem to ignore what is best for the public

The facts speak for themselves. Rising incidence of raw sewage being dumped into our waterways coupled with rising prices for water rates. Thames Water in financial disarray and the taxpayer being asked to pay for it. Ofwat, and the government, doing nothing meaningful about it.

It has failed to regulate the privatised water companies. Renationalisation at nil cost is the only answer.

Honestly if Ofwat were fit for purpose I don't think any of this crisis situation with sewers discharging into our water supply would be happening at all.

Ofwat is in the pockets of the water companies they are meant to regulate. Like all other UK regulatory bodies, they have been captured by industry and have changed from "watchdog to enabler" (as Dame June Raine says of the MHRA, medical regulatory body).

It’s glaringly obvious. It isn’t doing what it should. Total failure, in the pockets of private investors. Should be under public control

If Ofwat had done the job it was created for I doubt whether the issues of higher water rates, failing sewage systems & polluted rivers & seas would have happened

They are not carrying out the tasks they should be doing in holding the water companies to account. They should be looking out for the consumers, not the water companies.

Ofwat seems not to have sufficient 'clout'and powers to hold water companies to account - or perhaps the leaders have always been too lenient. Possibly lack of staff and therefore money but whatever the reason, the regulatory system needs overhauling and replacing with something stronger and with more powers.

Not delivering

We only have to look at the state of our rivers and seas to know that Ofwat aren’t fit for purpose. Our waters are disgusting and I for one will not be holidaying in England or Wales anytime soon!

It is not fit for purpose They need a good inspection themselves At the moment Incompetent fits the bill.

They are not regulating the water companies and not protecting the customer, so not performing the role intended.

no regulation occuring

Because they are hiring others that work for private companies

Whether they are acting impartially or not we cannot say, but a major part of the remit is not to employ people and practises that raise the question of impartiality. On that remit they're 100% guilty and like that they expect from the companies they interrogate they must be held to account and punished accordingly.

Water companies should be held to account by independent parties with no ties or finantial interests. They should represent the public.

It appears to be corrupt and is not working for the public's interests.

Toothless and ineffective

Its a conflict of interest. So very wrong in my opinion and should not be allowed.

Is Ofwat taken back handers off the water company’s

I previously worked for a water company for over 30 years, and know these people are hand picked, and therefore very well paid to allow practices to go unchallenged

Under resourced and negligently not forcing the regulations limiting sewage discharges.

There is not a not sure option, as I am not informed enough.

Regulators need teeth and transparency

This is typical of the conflict of interest and switching of employees and leading officials between Government watch dogs there to protect the public snd the companies themselves . It is simply unacceptable snd this culture that now pervades must be stopped immediately. It has ruined lives trust is destroyed and protection non existent .

Obvious isn't it. How can that be fair?

Because they are not fighting for our water bill to be lowered or arr not fighting for the water companies to be fined for poluting our rivers and waterways

We live near our local water treatment plant, and frequently see horrible discharge into the Thames. They need to invest in making things better, not stripping money for shareholders: those shareholders shouldn’t be bearing their costs.

All these organisations are corrupt

They have been completely negligent and failed to call the water companies to account.

Look at the state of our rivers! We need a new regulatory body with real teeth and the will to clean up Our filthy rivers, waterways and seas.

Should not be abolished but reformed

They seem to never use the powers that they have

A review needs to taken as to how Oftwat operates and for who's benefit they are working for. It certainly isn't the public.

It's like putting the fox in charge of the chicken coop.

Too many QuanGo's have been tampered with by Politicians insertion of "their people" to serve their own agendas

It has failed dismally to regulate the water companies and we are now up to our necks in sewage. Nationalise the water industry immediately.

They are not strict enough on water companies and have allowed them to pollute our waterways for years, by not making them put in infrastructures before doling out profits. Then blaming the consumers and putting up prices 😡😡

Needs more powers

They are not impartial

I don't know much about the company. Only know about it since your email came through. Sorry I don't follow news in detail.

They are serving the needs of over paid executives. Provision for water should never have been treated like other utility services.
