To The Rt Hon Ed Miliband MP - Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero

Remember 2022? 4,950 people died in cold homes. People chose between heating and eating. Companies posted record profits. Nothing changed.

Here we are again.

For the second time in four years, another illegal war has sent energy prices through the roof. And once again, National Grid, the private company that owns the backbone of Britain's energy network, is making bank. Food prices are climbing. Tough decisions are back.

The government should be doing its job. Ofgem should be stopping this. Wind and solar are cheaper than ever, but a privately owned grid stands between us and lower bills. Between us and living, not surviving.

With food, rent and energy all going up, there is no buffer when the bill lands. Workers should be feeling the benefit of renewable energy, not forking out to private companies.

The UK built its national energy grid. We're paying for it. We don't own it.

Petition text

The people are demanding:

  • Bring National Grid into public ownership, run it for people, NOT PROFIT.
  • Pass the benefits of cheap, clean energy on to all of us, not shareholders.
  • Reform Ofgem, make it protect consumers, not corporate margins.
  • Stop adding grid upgrade costs to our bills while private companies pocket the difference.
