I am writing to you as a concerned passenger who is deeply worried by the recent announcement to close the remainder of train ticket offices across the network.

I recently took part in a survey by workers' rights network and platform, Organise, and I'd like to bring your attention to two reports which detail the deep concern of more than 60,000 people regarding the closure of ticket offices.

97% of people surveyed condemn the closures. We are almost unanimous in our feelings on this matter: for the safety and security of passengers, for the accessibility of train travel for elderly, disabled, and vulnerable people, and for the sake of thousands of jobs – ticket offices and well-staffed stations are absolutely essential.

Machines cannot replace human interaction and expertise in addressing passenger concerns. So I call on you to reverse the decision to close train ticket offices and listen to the voices of your employees and customers.

“I assisted a passenger on the platform with a ticket machine, it tried to charge her over £50 more for the journey she wanted, she was going to pay I told her no and took her to the ticket office. Ticket office closures are NOT for the passenger no matter what they say.”

"I support people in wheelchairs with complex needs and learning disabilities. We need assistance regarding tickets and times as well as assistance getting on and off the trains. The staff are always helpful and some are even on first-name terms with our clients and have banter with them which enriches their day out. It makes them feel included in a world with enough barriers."
