To Sir Wyn Williams and the current MD of the post office

I had a friend who ran a local post office as part of a shop. The post office management started telling him that he owed them money because his accounts did not add up. He went back to keeping manual record as well as the then "new" post office computer system. His manual system showed that his accounts were good. The additional work created much stress with him and with his family. He was prosecuted for stealing from the post office. During the trial his manual accounts were dismissed as the post office management and software provider stated that there was nothing wrong with the new post office system. He had paid the post office all of his savings and raised loans in an attempt to buy time to keep his business running and keep out of being prosecuted while he attempted to unravel the mystery of where the reported missing money was going. During the early trial proceedings he was coerced into signing a statement stating that he had stolen the money and the reward for doing that is that he would not be sent to jail. Much of this very stressful encounter happened in 2011 and he lost his post office part of his job.
We now know that the post office management and the suppliers of the post office Horizon IT system were at fault but not admitting to this. The software did not work correctly and it was this causing the problems. There were some 700 subpostmasters prosecuted by the post office. Eventually the press got hold of this and carried out their own investigation, which subsequently lead to an official investigation which proved that the post office and the Horizon IT providers had carried out the largest miscarriage of justice ever seen in Britain. The then government stated that every one prosecuted under the Horizon IT scandal would get full and fair compensation. However, now the post office and the government are refusing to pay those people who signed a confession to stealing, which they had done on the promise of not being sent to jail. The post office have not case against them as it has been proved that they were not at fault.
I have raised this petition to have all subpostmasters be fully compensated as promised by the government, including all those that signed under duress to keep themselves out of jail.

Petition text

That the government is held to be true to its word and fully compensate all subpostmasters who were prosecuted, lost their jobs and savings under the Horizon IT scandal, even those who signed a statement under duress so as to keep them selves out of jail.
