To Justin Madders MP, Employment Rights Minister
When did our homes become our office? For millions of workers across the UK, the working day doesn't really end, it just moves to the sofa or to the dinner table.
Two-thirds of UK workers are already checking, replying to, or sending work messages outside their contracted hours. Nearly nine in ten adults say they've experienced high or extreme stress in the past year, and one in five workers needed time off because of it. This is bad for employees and employers!

It doesn't have to be like this. France has protected workers from after-hours contact since 2017, along with Ireland, Portugal, Belgium, Spain, and Australia.
Labour promised to do the same. The right to switch off was in their Plan to Make Work Pay, but when the Employment Rights Act was finalised, that promise wasn't in it.
Now we're asking for what was already promised. A clear, legal right for workers to disengage from work communications outside their contracted hours, without fear of consequences.
Give workers the legal right to switch off
