To Stuart Machin, CEO of Marks and Spencer
M&S say they're “revitalising” their brand, but behind the glossy headlines and booming profits, thousands of people who keep the stores clean, safe and secure are still being paid poverty wages.
While M&S directly pays their staff the real Living Wage, they’ve chosen not to extend the same to the cleaners, security guards and third-party contractors who work side-by-side with them every day. These workers are treated as expendable — even though the company can clearly afford better.
M&S made £407 million in profits in just six months last year. The CEO took home £4.7 million — while many of the people who make M&S run can’t afford basic essentials like food, housing or heating.
If thousands of us, workers, customers, and supporters, come together now, we can show that the public expects better from one of Britain’s biggest retailers.
