To Secretary of State for Health and Social Care

I have worked in emergency theatre as a theatre support worker for 19 years. I worked all through COVID, and I might add felt very unappreciated in doing so - we got a measly plastic badge for all our hard work!! From April, the government is putting up minimum wage to £11.44ph.

I already work nights for 12 hour shifts, 4 nights per week, on £11:44ph. I feel utterly exhausted, stressed out, and sometimes overwhelmed after my shift due to the pressure the staff are under. Many staff are leaving because of the wage being so poor! People cannot live on £11:44ph.

I believe if the government wants to keep the Band 2 staff - that includes porters, cleaners, support workers, HCAs and catering staff to name a few - they really need to increase our wages! The NHS couldn't run without Band 2s! The unsung heroes! It's terrible to think we help to save lives on a daily basis, we work just as hard as nurses, and all this for minimum wage! I am ready to go on strike to get a pay rise, I feel a mass walk out coming.
