To Taylor McWilliams, Hondo Enterprises and Martin Abrams, leader for Lambeth Council
I’ve lived in Brixton for 30 years. Our market is the beating heart of our neighborhood, rooted in Windrush legacy and home to traders from over 50 countries, like Esme, who has sold fruit and veg here for 22 years.
In 2018, property developer Taylor McWilliams bought the market and promised to protect it. Instead, we’ve spent years fighting off his gentrification plans, corporate tower blocks, and business evictions.
Now it is up for sale, and there are two ways this can go. A community bid wants to buy it and keep it as it is. A corporate buyer could snap it up instead, and traders fear being priced out within months.
The Buy Back Brixton campaign has raised £565,000 to buy the market and keep it in local hands. It has gone through the second stage and the decision is being made right now.
Taylor McWilliams promised to protect this market "for the long term" - this is his last chance to keep his word and sell Brixton Market to the community!

Petition text
We call on Taylor McWilliams and Hondo Enterprises to sell Brixton Village and Market Row to the community bid, not to a corporate buyer.
We call on Lambeth Council to use every power available, including the asset of community value designation secured last week, to support the community bid and protect Brixton's traders from displacement.
Protect Brixton Market and its traders!
