To Pat McFadden MP, Work and Pensions Minister
More and more people, myself included, are becoming self-employed or working on zero-hour contracts, contributing to National Insurance and taxes just like employees. Yet, we are excluded from any form of sick pay simply because we don’t have an employer to provide it. No one chooses to be ill, but without financial support, many self-employed workers are forced to work through sickness or fall behind on bills.
Petition text
It’s only fair that self-employed workers have access to a financial safety net when illness prevents them from working. While employers fund SSP for employees, the government must recognise the growing self-employed workforce and introduce a system that provides equivalent support when we need it most.
