We, the undersigned, are deeply concerned about the installation of CCTV cameras in our trucks that continuously film drivers while on duty. We believe that this practice not only invades our privacy but also raises serious concerns about data protection, workplace trust, and the potential misuse of advanced technology.
Why We Oppose Continuous Driver Surveillance:
**Invasion of Privacy:**
- Being filmed constantly while performing our duties infringes on our basic right to privacy. As drivers, we spend long hours in our vehicles, and continuous surveillance creates an environment of distrust and discomfort.
**Increased Stress and Mental Health Impact:**
- The knowledge that every move and gesture is being monitored by AI-powered cameras can lead to increased stress and anxiety. This can negatively affect our mental health and, in turn, our performance and safety on the road.
- Installing cameras that film and analyze drivers' every gesture through AI implies a lack of trust from the management towards its employees. Trust is a cornerstone of a productive workplace, and this surveillance erodes that trust.
**Potential Misuse of Footage:**
- There is a risk that the footage and data analyzed by AI could be used out of context or for purposes other than those stated, such as disciplinary actions or even surveillance beyond working hours. This misuse could have severe implications for our professional lives.
5. **Violation of GDPR:**
- Continuous filming and AI-driven analysis of drivers' behavior without explicit consent may violate GDPR regulations. We are concerned that our personal data, including video recordings and AI-generated insights, could be mishandled or exposed.
6. **Lack of Consultation and Union Representation:**
- This decision was made without proper consultation with the drivers or adequate consideration of our concerns. Moreover, the union, which is supposed to represent and protect our interests, did not seek our opinion on this matter. We believe that our voices should be heard before such invasive measures are implemented.
Our Demand:
We urge Tesco Dagenham to reconsider the decision to install AI-powered CCTV cameras that continuously film and monitor drivers in the trucks. Instead, we propose that alternative measures be explored that ensure safety without compromising our privacy and trust.
We, the undersigned, stand united in our opposition to this invasive practice and request immediate action to address our concerns.
Petition text
We propose that Tesco Dagenham reconsider the installation of CCTV cameras that continuously film drivers inside the cab. It’s important to note that our trucks are already equipped with 4D CCTV cameras or more around the exterior of the vehicle, which provide comprehensive safety coverage. Therefore, additional cameras inside the cab are unnecessary and overly intrusive.
