To Nigel Farage and The Reform Party

Recently, Nigel Farage dismissed working from home as “a load of nonsense” and claimed people are more productive only when they are physically in the office. He said this without any evidence or proof and in fact polling consistently shows the opposite, with strong support for flexible working across sectors. Workers report improvements in productivity, retention and wellbeing.

He is not in government and he cannot change employment law tomorrow, but language like this matters. When prominent politicians frame flexible working as laziness, question work life balance, and mock people managing anxiety or caring responsibilities, it gives political cover to employers who want to roll back hybrid arrangements. It shifts the culture and it legitimises forcing people back into long commutes and rigid schedules. Millions of workers will pay the price if we do not take a collective stand against it!

Petition text

Organise and Mother Pukka call on Nigel Farage to stop promoting blanket return to office mandates without data to justify them.

And we call on employers and policymakers not to be swayed by ideological attacks on modern working. Flexible working is not a culture war issue, it is an economic reality, a gender equality issue, a disability rights issue, and a workers’ rights issue.

We will not go backwards because of political rhetoric. Sign this petition to defend flexible, hybrid and home working from political attacks and protect the rights of workers across the UK.
