To Pat McFadden, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, and Stephen Timms, Minister of State for Social Security and Disability, and co-chair of the review.

Any of us could need PIP one day. A workplace injury, an illness that doesn't go away, a condition that creeps up as we get older. When it happens, PIP is often the only thing between a disabled person and losing their job altogether.

I watched a loved one go through the assessment. Someone who barely understood their condition, asking them to relive their worst days on a rushed call. At the end of it, they still didn't know if they could afford the things that kept them independent, and in work.

The government's own review admits it: PIP is valued, but it's not fit for purpose. The process is degrading, decisions are inconsistent, evidence gets ignored and I've only seen this second hand - but they're 100% right.

We should all worry about the small print, any changes to PIP have to fit a budget the Treasury set before the review even started. So whatever disabled people tell this review, the final numbers were already decided, not reform. Just spreadsheets deciding how people live.

Petition text

We're calling on the government to commit, in public: evidence first, numbers second, not the other way round.

- No one should lose support that keeps them in a job to hit a savings target.
- Full transparency on how the spending cap is shaping the review's conclusions.
- Any changes go through proper parliamentary scrutiny, not secondary legislation.
