To To John Healey, Chancellor of the Exchequer
I work at a trust that is still paying off a hospital built under PFI in the 1990s. Every year, money that should go to patient care goes to the private company that owns our building instead.
On my ward, we've waited months for basic repairs and been told there's no money for extra staff on nights. But the PFI payments never stop. The company gets paid in full every year, whatever state the building is in.
Now the government wants to do it all again. It plans to fund 80% of new NHS neighbourhood health centres through the same kind of private finance, a figure the Department of Health only admitted after Organise's Freedom of Information requests forced it out.
I've seen where this road goes. Private companies build and own the buildings, and we pay them back with interest for decades. Talks with private companies are already under way.

Petition text
I'm calling on John Healey, the Chancellor, to rule out private finance for NHS neighbourhood health centres in the 28 October Budget, fund them through public borrowing, and make any public-private partnership talks transparent before a contract is signed. I'm living with the cost of the last PFI mistake.
Don't sign us up for another thirty years of it.
Stop private finance taking over our new NHS buildings
