To Liz Kendall, Secretary of State for Work & Pensions

As an autistic man, I understand firsthand the importance of stability, routine, and financial security - things that Personal Independence Payment (PIP) helps provide for many disabled people.

Living with a disability often means facing additional costs, whether for specialist support, accessible transport, or simply managing the unpredictable challenges of daily life. These proposed changes risk stripping away vital support from those who need it most, forcing people into unnecessary hardship. I have spent years advocating for disabled individuals because I know how exhausting it is to constantly fight for the basic right to live with dignity.

The government's approach - rushing through reforms without properly listening to disabled people - feels like yet another dismissal of our voices and lived experiences. This isn't just policy; it's about real people who will suffer if these changes go ahead.

Petition text

We, the undersigned, call on the UK Government to abandon any plans to restrict access to Personal Independence Payment (PIP) through changes to eligibility criteria. While some reform may be necessary, any changes must be made with proper consultation and without causing harm to disabled individuals across the UK.

PIP is a vital lifeline, ensuring financial security and independence for those with disabilities and long-term health conditions. Restricting access would push vulnerable individuals further into poverty, undermining their dignity and wellbeing.

We urge the Government to:

Cease any changes to PIP eligibility that would reduce access for those in genuine need.
Ensure that any future reforms are developed through transparent and meaningful consultation with disabled people and advocacy groups.
We stand against policies that place financial strain on disabled individuals and demand fair, compassionate, and evidence-based reform. PIP is a lifeline, not a luxury. The Government’s reforms will leave thousands of disabled people without the support they need to live independently.
