I drive for Bolt. Every shift, an app decides how much I earn, which jobs I get offered, and whether my rating is good enough to keep working at all. This is the same for so many of us, whether you're driving, delivering, or riding for a platform like Bolt, Uber, Deliveroo, Just Eat or Amazon Flex. For all of us it's the same: an algorithm manages your work, and you have almost no way to see how, or challenge it. If your account gets flagged or suspended, it's often the algorithm that does it, not a person you can talk to.

From December, gig workers doing the same jobs for the same companies in the EU won't have to put up with this. New EU law means platforms have to tell workers how these systems make decisions about them, and a human being has to be involved before anyone's account can be suspended or shut down.

In the UK, none of that applies. Same companies, same apps, same jobs, but fewer rights because we live in the UK.
