To Rt. Hon. Jeremy Hunt, MP

I'm just coming up to my 72st birthday and struggling to live on the meagre pension I've worked all my life to live on. I've been forced to cash in my private pensions to part-pay off a mortgage that increased with inflation due mostly to Labour policies of reckless spending and will never vote Conservative again because of their recent policies and duplicitous actions. I have to rely on an Armed Forces pension - which itself is a pathetic sum plus Attendance Allowance, which again is rather pathetic. I can just get by but haven't had a holiday in 8 years and can't afford a car, whereas the nearest bus stop to get into town is almost a mile away - too far for somebody who is partially disabled. Needless to say, I can't afford the exorbitant prices of taxis, so, in effect, I'm housebound.
Having a pension increase of a couple of thousand pounds by bringing me onto the same level as other younger pensioners would make a big difference.

Petition text

Having two levels of basic State Pension is unfair and penalises older pensioners, who, through being born before an arbitrary date, receive considerably less in their state pension that those younger pensioners, who are often more likely to be able to find work to supplement their income.

The McCloud judgement of 2018 may show that this discrimination is illegal
A judgement in the case of McCloud v. NHS (2018) showed in the Court of Appeal, that discrimination on the grounds of age regarding the treatment of pensioners is illegal and this may be the basis for taking the government to court to get this anomaly in the current legislation changed. Unfortunately, this costs money and I'd be grateful if anyone could suggest a way to get any possible court action funded or if there is a solicitor and barrister willing to act 'pro bono' on our behalf. Thanks.
