To The Rt Hon Grant Shapps MP, Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy
Energy companies are making huge profits and Shell has just announced three monthly profits of more than £8 billion. It is despicable that these companies then set their domestic energy prices at levels we, ordinary people, just cannot afford. It is ridiculous that our government does not do something to stop this.
If they kept our electricity and gas prices low, energy companies could still make great profits. The gap between our incomes and their profits is mind blowing. The hard and sad reality is that children really are suffering now and it will get worse as the weather gets colder. Imagine being a parent who really and truly has to choose between having the heating on and buying basic food for your family. Imagine knowing that if you don't pay, the bailiffs could come and take away your furniture. This is not a horror story. It's happening all over our country.

The government must act to force energy companies to lower and keep domestic prices at an affordable level. They could do so much, but choose to do so little. They could easily pass a law to protect families, old people - all of us - from fuel poverty. It is immoral to allow energy companies to make such indecent profits while children suffer.
