Allow mothers to exempt time spent on maternity leave from the average earnings for the self-employment income support scheme
To Rishi Sunak, Chancellor of the Exchequer
Petition text
To Rishi Sunak,
The new self-employed income support pays self-employed people 80% of their average earnings over the last 3 years. Mothers who have taken maternity leave in this time will register much lower earnings than normal and will end up with less support than if it was based on their usual income.
We are asking for these women to be allowed to exempt periods of maternity leave from the average income calculations.
Why is this important?
Don't discriminate against mothers in the new self-employment income support scheme.
It is important that mothers are treated equally and not discriminated against for having a baby.
