I work hard, but my money does not go as far as it used to. Food, rent, energy, and transport all cost more. My pay has gone up slightly, but only to keep up with rising prices. I am not better off.
Because the government has frozen tax thresholds, more of my pay is taken in tax anyway. That means people like me are paying more tax without being any richer. Some are paying tax for the first time. Others are pushed into higher tax bands just because the cost of living has gone up.
This is not fair. If wages rise only to keep up with prices, tax free pay should rise too.
