To DWP Minister, Stephen Timms
Nearly 4 million people in England and Wales rely on Personal Independence Payment (PIP) to help cover the extra costs of living with a disability or long-term health condition. Many of us, or people we love, depend on it to live with dignity and independence. It is a lifeline, not a luxury.
The government wants to reform PIP, and a review led by Minister Sir Stephen Timms is now underway, reporting in Autumn 2026. We're concerned its findings could be used to justify fresh restrictions for new claimants.

We call on the UK Government to:
- Publish all evidence and findings transparently, so outcomes cannot be predetermined behind closed doors.
- Commit that no reforms will push disabled people into poverty. The government's own analysis showed earlier proposals could have affected 250,000 people. We demand independent scrutiny of any future changes.
- Ensure PIP continues to recognise the cumulative impact of disability, because our needs don't fit neatly into a single box.
