A place to organise for those who have been sold faulty computers by Lenovo

Petition text

As is known by Lenovo, and well documented across its forums, the Legion T5 has compatibility issues between two pieces of hardware: the motherboard (the onboard sound, specifically) and the nvidia graphics card. This incompatibility causes the computer to shutdown within minutes of using it, showing a blue screen of death (BSOD) and a DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION error.

In short, the product is unusable.

Lenovo have suggested using an old nvidia driver for the past year while they work with nvidia to solve the issue. This is not an acceptable solution, nor is a year an acceptable amount of time.

Anyone who uses this product for gaming or for video editing knows that this is not a solution. As games and software like Adobe Premiere Pro continually update, they are designed to work in conjunction with the new nvidia drivers, which users of this computer are unable to do.

My device has been just about (I emphasise ‘just about’) usable with the older driver up until now. The most recent updates to Adobe software like Premiere (which I use daily for work) have made this computer absolutely unusable. Adobe Premiere now reports the error that the ‘driver doesn’t meet requirements’ for the latest versions.

I have spent endless hours and days attempting to solve this, have been in endless conversations with technicians at Lenovo who send me round in circles, offer useless advice, and generally ignore the problem. One Lenovo staff member on the Lenovo forum said their last update worked and to download a specific driver; when users in the forum complained that the issue persisted they replied that it did work and that that was the ‘final solution’.

A quick look at Lenovo forums shows endless numbers of customers with the same problem, who have experienced the same disregard from Lenovo, and are equally as appalled, dismayed and fed-up (these are words they’ve used).

This seemingly intractable issue and Lenovo’s atrocious response to it and their customers has left me with no option than to seek further action. I’ve been advised a class-action lawsuit would likely be appropriate in this case. If you've had this problem please sign so that we can organise. Thanks.
