To Government, Gavin Williamson, Borris Johnson

We as teaching assistants have been working tirelessly during this Pandemic. We have fulfilled roles and responsibilities not under our remit or pay grade. We gone above and beyond, we always do. We are also in early and out late because we care about our jobs, the children; yet this not reflected in our pay.

During keyworker teaching we little or no breaks, we used that time to prepare for rest of the teaching and make printouts. Yes, we enriched the lives of the keyworker children and enabled the Doctor's and nurses and other keyworker's to work.

Without us where would we be? We put snacks together, bought popcorn for a movie, stayed late to clear up, created amazing artwork and inspired the children on our own accord. We facilitated the lockdown, yet there has been no recognition. No additional pay rise or bonus.

We go above and beyond and always will, we deserve some appreciation. After all, we are mums too and wives and daughters and we care. I personally arranged and cooked 60 meals for NHS covid staff in a covid secure unit who were working night shift and the time had no access to food. We are those people who care. So should the government 🤔

Petition text

I would like the education sector amongst all other keyworker groups to receive recognition. I believe we are due a payrise and so are other keyworkers. The very fact we were all labelled keyworker's means we all deserve the credit.

I work as an over qualified Teaching Assistant because I am a single mum with 2 little girls & I want to be there in their lives as much as possible. But I can barely make ends meet & when I work I put in 200 because I love kids & I am passionate about them & what could be more rewarding when you want to change the world? Just give credit where credit is due.

I will point out, we were pretty much thrown in the deep end & even now, when the senior leadership is busy constructing plans & rewording emails, we deal with the food on the floor, the runaway kids & the fractures when tackling during football in the playground. I don't ask much.
