With just 8-10 bank holidays a year (depending on which nation you live in), workers in the UK have the lowest number of bank holidays of anywhere in Europe. In fact, we’ve got one of the lowest in the world.
People have worked flat out through a global pandemic, with many experiencing higher workloads and stress than ever before. Workers desperately deserve an extra day off, and for those of us still working we deserve fair pay with a higher rate.
Public opinion is clear: 85% of people polled think June 3rd should be made a permanent UK bank holiday, with many others suggesting we should have one in October instead.
Whichever month it falls, it’s time the government listened to workers and made the new bank holiday a permanent fixture – to boost morale, our economy, and give us more time with our loved ones.
