It's alarming. A US private equity firm has just taken control of the patient record system used by most GP practices in England.

The investment firm TPG has bought Optum UK - the company behind the electronic records used by most GPs - in a deal worth around £300m. Experts say it should "ring alarm bells", with our most sensitive health data increasingly being handed to shady private companies.
