To Chancellor Rachel Reeves MP,

The UK’s super-rich keep getting richer while the rest of us struggle and public services are at breaking point. There is an opportunity to put pressure on the Chancellor to do the right thing and tax the ultra-rich.

The Chancellor has already said higher taxes on the wealthy will be part of her Budget, let's make sure she sticks to it. Sign this letter to the Chancellor calling on her to commit to taxing those who can afford it.

In one of the wealthiest nations on earth, one in five people now live in poverty, while the fortunes of the ultra-rich continue to soar.

When you came into government you told us you were on the side of hard working people and not the ultra wealthy. Now is your time to prove it. Raise taxes on the ultra wealthy to protect hard-working people and improve our public services.

At the next Budget you can do this by:

1. Raising much-needed revenue now by reforming existing taxes on wealth such as Capital Gains Tax, so that taxes on income from wealth are in line with taxes on income from work.

2. Tackling wealth inequality in the long term by committing to implementing a 2% wealth tax on assets over £10m during this Parliament - creating space, over time, to rebalance our tax system. We know MPs, unions and economists are in agreement on this.

Why is this important?

The UK’s super-rich keep getting richer while the rest of us struggle and public services are at breaking point.

The UK is one of the richest countries in the world. No one should be struggling to make ends meet, working paycheck-to-paycheck just to afford the basics. Our NHS deserves better too.

But most of the UK’s wealth is held by a tiny elite. The UK’s richest 50 families hold more wealth than 50% of the population.

Even wealthy people are calling for higher taxes on their wealth - it's time the government listened to the overwhelming public support for measures that tax the super rich.
