Amazon delivery drivers are asking Amazon to urgently lower their delivery targets:
Stressful. So stressful. I’m working under huge time pressure, worried if I’m able to deliver all parcels. Dsp’s tried to frighten us about giving 3 day ban even for 1 minute delay! Mentor app is not helping, it makes me thinking all the time about score at the end of the day instead focusing on driving and delivering. My anxiety and depression is back because of this work. The fact is that with all new restrictions and bigger amount of work it’s only getting worse.
It is very intense. No time to stop for a break even a bathroom break dispite what you are told. Even if you hit your target you are punished and told to go help someone else, or you are given more parcels the following day.
Its the only job I have ever had that punishes you for doing your job well.
A nightmare! My manager is struggling to help us all, but some of us stay more than 9 hours on the road under stress. And we do mistakes. I have today on large van 353 parcels. How can i deliver all of them by the book ? I can't! I deliver how amazon wanted and speed up, park in bad places.
Hectic. 250+ parcels in a Small wheelbase van is absolutely absurd. We don’t get time to clean our hands and it’s so dangerous whilst in a pandemic. We try our best but we have no choice but to rush our routes otherwise we’d never finish and probably have our contracts terminated for not attempting delivery for all allocated parcels. This causes immense stress and strain mentally and physically on the mind and body.
If you look at other delivery companies out there Hermes DPD for example, they have maximum 150 parcels and that’s during peak. I think amazon and DSP’s need to take care of their workers because they’re being worked into the ground.
I hope amazon understand where we are coming from. If they were in our shoes I’m sure they’d feel the same. It’s just not the best of environments to be in. You could tell me why don’t you get another job? It’s quite difficult when there’s a global pandemic and I enjoy doing courier work as it gives me the freedom to go about my day in the outdoors. I hope amazon see this and take action. Everyone would do their job so much more positively and not worry about having 170+ stops which equates to 250+ parcels!
190 stops with 300 parcels. No time for breaks, and especially being a woman going for a wee in the back of the van isn't at all pleasant. Sometimes you just don't have time to find a supermarket or it's too far away and you will fall behind. The load seems to have gone up since Christmas and for a lot less money. They're expecting a lot and for you to deliver safely but that isn't practical with the amount of parcels/stops being given.
I used to really enjoy it, but now, I feel I actually hate it! I dread going to work every day. The routes are huge and totally unrealistic. 200 stops a day, 250-300 Parcels. We don't have time to eat, or even go to the toilet. I'm exhausted! With the pressure on us at the moment it's putting us and others in danger. They've introduced a new app which tracks exactly how we're driving and being penalised if we drive slightly too fast, brake slightly too hard and even if we turn a little too harsh. We're being paid less to deliver more, our bonus targets are pretty much impossible too! Honestly, I'd never recommend anyone to deliver for amazon.
We just don’t stop during the day. Drivers are exhausted but we have to go on. Imagine driving a van ten hours a day, without eating or drinking and hopping in and out continuously. We do about 10/12km a day on foot. It’s insane.
Some days are unbearable. I have times when I’m so exhausted and mentally broken I feel like crying. This culture is like working in a Victorian mill. There’s no way this has a place in the 21st century.
It's quite soul destroying, I'm not long back after being out in A&E because we have to work through weather warnings, I've worked in - 8 and storms with no route reductions because it feels like they are more worried about hitting there targets than keeping the self employed staff safe. I constantly worry about older members of our teams as they also face the same difficulties with little to know help. I love my job but the rate of pay for this level of labour is impossible to maintain
I’m praying every day to comeback safe at home after finishing 300 parcels to deliver
Van that I rented from them has many motor issues which I have reminded them that need to be fixed. They have ignored that. I had wrong breaks, oil service was needed, air condition didn’t work and I was pregnant pushed to deliver around 280 parcels over size, heavy etc with time limit.
I hope things get better soon because this is not sustainable. the Amazon model seems to be breaking the driver's so they quit. We are to be used up and thrown away this is definitely not a long-term option. As a father of a young child it breaks my heart that I've been forced into this position.
